Things to Do in Riviera Nayarit

Things to Do in Riviera Nayarit

Known for its remote location, gorgeous beaches, and friendly people, Riviera Nayarit also makes for a great family vacation. And unlike some romantic destinations, your little ones will be welcome at Playa las Tortugas. In fact, one recent reviewer commented that ” Eli and Kelly were very helpful from the moment we inquired about making a reservation all the way through our return home, answering questions and making sure we got certain things to borrow for the little ones (high chair, car seats for shuttle, etc). We really appreciated their kind attention and thoughtfulness.” In addition to the great hospitality that this reviewer mentions, here are some ways to enjoy your family vacation at Riviera Nayarit:

Sea Turtle Camp

This beach isn’t called Playa Las Tortugas for nothing. Turtle Beach is known for the thousands of Ridley turtles that arrive on shore every year to lay and hatch eggs. Nestled in the north end of our property lies a small sea turtle hatchery that is perfect for little ones and adults to enjoy. At the hatchery you can view eggs and, if you time it right, watch these turtles release into the wild. Volunteers, including some guests, help these turtles. Kids and adults can volunteer to help keep the turtles safe during the late summer months, and in return we’ll offer a discount on your stay at the villa.

Whale watching

Beautiful, majestic, and powerful, humpback whales swim in abundance during the winter months of December-February. Simply walk along the shore of the beach to see humpback whales and dolphins swimming freely. Some visitors even have the luck to watch humpback whales give birth in the shallow waters just beyond the breaker. There’s no need to make a reservation or plan ahead to whale watch at Playa Las Tortugas – simply take your family for a walk along the beach. It doesn’t get more special than that.

Pool

If you need a break from the beach but still want to cool off from the heat of the day, take a dip in our pool. Perfect for all ages, our pool has three levels. Little ones can sit and play in our walled-off shallow end, and you can relax knowing they can’t accidentally wander into the deep end. Enjoy our lounge chairs and umbrellas for breaks from the sun. Families can easily spend a whole day relaxing and playing by the pool, and please feel free to use the pool toys we have available or bring your own.

Horseback riding

If your family includes older kids, then you won’t want to miss out on our spectacular half-day horseback rides. For only $50 for a half day, you and your family will enjoy a horseback riding adventure that will take you through the jungle or along the beach, depending on your preference. This is one of our most popular attractions, so be sure to reserve your spot ahead of time, as you won’t want to miss out on this leisurely adventure.

Estuary canoeing/kayaking

Older children might be ready for their own personal kayak, while little ones will easily fit into a canoe with mom and dad as you leisurely cruise through a beautiful, thriving bird estuary. Our rentals are only $10 a day, so plan ahead by packing a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way.

No matter how old or young your kids are, there’s no doubt they will always remember your family vacation at Riviera Nayarit. Animal lovers will delight in seeing turtles, whales, dolphins, and birds, along with riding on horseback through the jungle or along the beach. When you’re ready to relax, take a break by the pool or on our secluded beach, which is always free from vendors.
