San Blas
The quiet fishing village of San Blas is known for its historic roots and its numerous native bird species. Situated just north of Playa Las Tortugas, this area offers an ideal haven for nature and bird enthusiasts. Here, you’ll find an array of outdoors activities such as hiking through mountain trails to stunning waterfalls, and enjoying guided bird watching tours to catch glimpses of species you won’t see anywhere else in the world.
Because of the environment of the area, fresh fish is easy to find whether it’s at a local restaurant or purchased straight from the markets to take home and grill yourself. Either way, the variety of seafood will amaze you. The teeming wildlife in this area is outstanding. A beloved activity is the cruise through the La Tovara estuary, which takes visitors on a 2 to 3 hour boat ride through the swamps of San Blas where you can appreciate the diverse native wildlife, including crocodiles, tropical birds, and other reptiles such as turtles, lizards and frogs. There may even be a chance to witness the hatching of a baby crocodile at the estuary’s crocodile breeding center. No matter where your interests lie, San Blas is an exceptional place to discover a new adventure and learn a little bit about the area at the same time.
