Holiday in Riviera Nayarit

Make Your Holiday in Riviera Nayarit Unforgettable

As one of Mexico’s most attractive tourist destinations, Riviera Nayarit is situated between the Western Sierra Madre and the Pacific Ocean. This 200-mile stretch of coastline is full of authentic beach towns and colonial history, yet it’s still somewhat off the beaten path for Mexican tourism. What this means is you can have a wonderful vacation in paradise without the crowds that sometimes plague other coastal areas. Here are some of the best places to go and top activities that will make your vacation memorable.

Nuevo Vallarta Beach

Wide and clean with nice sand and soft waves, Nuevo Vallarta Beach is THE place to go to enjoy the ocean. It’s family-friendly, but also has attractions for couples like trendy bars  and restaurants right on the waterfront. Public access is via three paths and visitors can walk all the way to the Ameca River. You’ll also fin a lot of vendors selling local wares here.

Isla Marietas National Park

An ideal destination for those who love watersports and ecotourism, Isla Marietas National Park is a wonderful day trip for those who like to snorkel and experience the rich oceanic life that this area has to offer. Located a few miles to the west of Punta Mita, this island park is also home to many species of colorful birds. The area is  perhaps the best well-known and bio-diverse sanctuaries in Mexico, making it a must-see for visitors.

Those who dive will find this part the ideal place to see sea turtle, stingrays, dolphins, octopus and humpbacked whales. One of the most spectacular  locales in the park is Playa Escondida, or Hidden Beach, a small sandy beach half hidden by a wall of rocks in the heart of the Marietas Islands. Several tour operators offer day excursions around the park, which is an ideal way to see the area.

Sayulita Beach

For a lively, fun time, head over to Sayulita Beach where you can surf, sunbathe, shop, dine, and chill to your heart’s content. Sayulita is the area’s most sophisticated and sexy beach. You’ll often find travelers lazing in hammocks hung from coconut trees, beachcombing for lost treasures or simply taking part in the good life. Surrounded by  the sound of waves and nature, you’ll have your choice of trendy restaurants and outdoor bars, making you feel that you are truly in paradise.

La Cruz de Huanacaxle Fish Market

For a slice of local life, there’s nothing like a visit to the LaCruz de Huanacaxle Fish Market, located near the Marina Riviera Nayarit. Although virtually every beach town on the cost has a fish market, this one is always bustling, full of fishing boats bringing in their daily wares. Many local restauranteurs also come here to buy seafood for their tables. Come hungry as visitors will often find locals preparing freshly caught food right on the spot. In addition to the most extensive variety of fresh seafood in the area, visitors will also find a local artisan and organic market on Sunday with vendors selling crafts and a large selection of organic fruits and vegetables.

Scuba, Snorkeling and Surfing

What’s a holiday on Riviera Nayarit without taking advantage of all the fun that local beaches have to offer? If you have always wanted to try your hand at one of these sports, no problem. The area is full of schools that offer individualized attention so that you can get the most out of your holiday on the water. If you’re wondering where to go, the staff at Playa Las Tortugas will be happy to recommend a local operator.
