Zacualpan

Visiting Mexico isn’t just about having the luxury of staying in five star resorts or being waited on hand and foot, it’s also about experiencing the culture. Zacualpan, located a short half-hour drive from Playa Las Tortugas, is a sleepy town that draws very few tourists to its isolated spot on the Nayarit coast. Thankfully for us, this town boasts an untouched outlook on local life and culture. Be sure to try the traditional pollo asado—a regional specialty—which is chicken marinated in a scrumptious blend of spices. This is not your run-of-the-mill pollo asado that you get at stateside Mexican restaurants!

Take some time to indulge in the uncomplicated Nayarit lifestyle while enjoying some of the spectacular scenery. Every Wednesday, the town offers a small market where the smell of roasting chicken is unreal. There is also plenty of fresh seasonal fruit present, whose sweet juices will certainly tantalize your taste buds.
